Welcome to the OSU Trumpet Studio Page

The trumpet studio at Oklahoma State University is active on and off campus. With performance across the state and country, trumpet students at OSU are visible and active in the world of music. The OSU Trumpet Studio is involved in the National Trumpet Competition and the International Trumpet Guild as well as hosting top professional trumpet players from around the world for master classes and performances.

Membership into the studio is open to music majors and non-majors. Non-majors are expected to be involved in at least one OSU performing ensemble. All music majors must audition for ac ceptance into the OSU Department of Music. Audition dates are scheduled by the Department of Music but may also be set-up with Dr. Martin on an individual basis. Audition requirements are:

  1. A representative sample of major scales and the chromatic scale through the practical range of the instrument.
  2. Two solos or etudes of contrasting styles. Preferably not the All-State required pieces.
  3. Sight reading.
  4. Demonstrations of orchestral excerpts and jazz/lead trumpet skills are optional but strongly encouraged

All OSU trumpet students study privately with Dr. Martin. Each student receives at least one lesson per week. In addition, a weekly trumpet seminar is held to cover pedagogical topics, offer a chance for students to play individually as well as perform in the OSU Trumpet Ensemble.

Scholarships and financial aid is available. For questions about scholarships and auditions, contact Dr. Jonathan Martin.
