Dr. Jonathan Martin

Jonathan Martin has been a professional trumpet player since 1984. With degrees from L.S.U., U.T.S.A., and the University of Iowa, Jonathan has spent time as a member of many orchestras, commercial & jazz groups, as well as four years with the United States Air Force “Band of the West”.

An established teacher, Jonathan has held positions at Coe College, Cornell College, Northeastern Illinois University, Eastern Kentucky University, and Oklahoma State University. As a university professor, Dr. Martin taught trumpet and directed jazz and brass ensembles. As a jazz ensemble director, Dr. Martin has worked with an impressive list of artists including: Bobby Shew, Michael Davis, Randy Brecker, Maria Schneider, Bob Berg, Wayne Bergeron, Andy Martin, Vince DiMartino, Steve Wiest, Bob Shepperd, and Conrad Herwig.

Jonathan has held orchestra positions with the Quad Cities Symphony, the Lake Forest Symphony, the Owensboro Symphony, the Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra, Northwest Florida Symphony, and the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra.

Throughout his professional career, Jonathan has performed with a variety of groups and artists that include: Dizzy Gillespie, Lou Rawls, Frankie Avalon, Lil Anthony and the Imperials, Aretha Franklin, Jim Nabors, Dudley Moore, the Big Band of Chicago, the Barret Deems Jazz Orchestra, the Chicago Sinfonetta, Dionne Warwick, Linda Ronstadt, Tom Scott, Byron Stripling, Johnny Mathis, the Nashville Symphony Orchestra, the Mobile Symphony Orchestra, Bernadette Peters, "Kansas", Frank Sinatra Jr., and the New York Tenors.

Jonathan has many recording credits to his name, including a world premier recording of Arnold Rosner’s “Concerto for Two trumpets, Strings, and Tympani, and his own jazz quartet recording entitled “Standard Jazz”. Jonathan has performed in Europe as soloist with the American Wind Symphony (Italy), the Frankenwald Brass Festival (Germany), the Orvieto Trumpet Festival (Italy), and the Exploring Trumpet Festival (Greece).
